The humble apple, it turns out, is actually a powerful galactagogue that increases your serum prolactin levels, and therefore, your milk supply. This vegan smoothie also harnesses the power of almonds, flax and brewer’s yeast, and warming spices such as ginger and cinnamon, which are used in China and India to help women recover from birth and produce more milk.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce*
  • 3/4 cup almond milk*
  • 1/3 cup ice, optional
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cinnamon*
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg* and ginger* (You can also use apple pie spice mix)
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seed*
  • 1 tbsp brewer’s yeast*

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients in a blender and mix at high speed for 1 minute.
  • You can also prepare these shakes in advance by putting the ingredients in a wide-mouth jar and soaking them for up to 3 days.
