My Story

Jennifer Thome Bf 2 copyHi there, mommy!

This is me and my son Hugo, doing what he once loved most: nursing.

But nursing didn’t come easily to us, and between a difficult birth, my son being jaundiced, sleepy and tongue-tied, my milk didn’t come in for three weeks. I also found out later that milk supply issues run in the family.

Determined to breastfeed until six months months, I made it my second job. I power-pumped, cooked Chinese fish soups and ate oats like crazy, and eventually I blew through that six month goal and made it almost to two years.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that all this extra work wore me out, and reaching for those lactation cookies when I was too tired to cook totally messed up my blood sugar, not to mention my weight, leading to a long struggle with postpartum depression.

When I finally came out of the fog (it kind of feels like your soul got pinned under a rock), I had one mission: to make sure other moms have access to good milk-boosting recipes. I had a publisher who was interested in the book, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt that this needed to be online. Why? Because raising kids is expensive enough, and often times, mothers are searching for recipes late at night, in those few precious moments we get to ourselves, so they need to be somewhere where they can find them.

That, and links are so easy to share with husbands, partners, parents and friends, who really should be cooking for you.

So, dear mom, this is where Boob Fuel was born. It’s a site by a mother, for the mothers, and I hope you love the recipes you find here.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to personally email me. First name dot last name @ boobfuel.com
